Founder & Directors

The Founder

Reverend James D. Bracken (1934-2012) founded Mission Teens, Inc. in 1969. He opened the first residential center in Norma, NJ after much prayer. He knew there was a need for a more effective ministry for the troubled young people who were attending his home prayer meetings. After two years of little results in the center, God answered his prayer by dictating to him a program which, when put into effect brought immediate results in people's lives.  This same program is still used today in all of the Mission Teens centers and the results are still phenomenal.

Born in Philadelphia, PA to Guy and Delores Bracken, Jim graduated from Florida State University after serving three years in the United States Army. Jim dedicated his life to serving God and helping others as the founder and director of Mission Teens, Inc., a non-profit Christian discipleship program, and alcohol and drug rehabilitation center, with twenty centers across the country. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Jim was able to guide thousands of individuals to seek God as the answer to their problems and conquer their addiction.

Steve Schwartz is the Chief Executive Director of all Mission Teens centers. Since Jim Bracken the founders passing, the men and women who worked directly with him and caught his vision for helping people have carried on. Jim told us that the ministry would continue as long as we continue to love one another. While Mission Teens has gone on to see many changes and improvements over the past 48 years, the curriculum and format are still the same at all 20 Mission Teens Centers.

Victor Adair, Executive Director and his wife, Marion Adair, Assistant Executive Director here at Sonrise Mission. They work directly with Reverend Steve Schwartz to train the staff, oversee the general condition of the building, raise necessary support as well as teach, counsel, etc. Victor and Marion came into covenant relationship at Sonrise Mission in August 2008 following the call of God to help others as they had been helped. They currently live on property at the Mission. Victor is from Bessemer, Alabama and Marion is from Camden, New Jersey.
